Shirley Kilian, known professionally as Shirley Guy, has been teaching South Africans to cook for over fifty years. In addition to running her Dough Hook cookery school in Johannesburg, Shirley has written over a dozen food and cookery books and her food articles has appeared in well-known magazines. For three years Shirley hosted a TV-presentation of Weber cooking, and she has judged The Great South African Bake Off on BBC Lifestyle.
Her studies include The Cordon Bleu school in London and La Verenne in Paris and her fascination for Asian flavours and spices took her to the Oriental Cooking School in Bangkok, learning Thai cuisine.
In addition to being a local chairman and African representative at the prestigious International Wine & Food Society in London, Shirley is awarded the Honorary Grand Diploma by the Cordon Bleu College in Cape Town, in recognition of her contribution to food and food knowledge in South Africa.
Inspired by the “Babettes Feast” story by Karen Blixen, this is a first in a series of fine dining feasts at Hotel du Vin, featuring renowned Franschhoek Chefs and with wines from the award winning Hotel du Vin wine cellars.
25% of the payment goes to a charity chosen by the chef. Shirley Kilian has chosen Franschhoek Hospitality Academy to be the beneficiary of this event.
